 THE GREEN WOOD CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES

We are pleased to announce to premiere of a new Chamber Music Series at our second worship location,  nestled in the ambient serene wooded area, visible through the glass walls of our Green Wood Sanctuary. In our first season, we are pleased to present four 60-minute musical offerings by local musicians. Admission to all concerts is free with a goodwill offering provided to support these local musicians.  A reception will follow each of these performances.

Green Wood Chamber Music Concert #1

Washtenaw Town Band - Jerry Robbins, conductor

 

October 16, 2011 – 3:00 pm

The Ypsilanti Town Band, an exciting ensemble under the direction of Dr. Jerry Robbins is a twenty-piece sub-group of the Washtenaw Community Concert Band. This “vintage town band” was founded by Dr. Robbins and the current members after thorough research of repertoire, apparel, style, and customs relevant to the music of the 1880-1920 era. The first performances of the group were in March 2009. The continued development of the “Ypsilanti Town Band” has resulted in a delightfully entertaining and hightly proficient ensemble as evidenced in numerous enthusiastic reviews. We are delighted to present this auspicious group on our Green Wood Series.

Euterpe Wind Quintet

 

November 20, 2011 – 3:00 pm

Enjoy the colorful palette of woodwind instruments with this performance by the Euterpe Woodwind Quintet. Under the leadership of founder Ernie Brandon, this ensemble has already dazzled audiences with their sensitive interpretation of classic and new woodwind quintet literature.

“A Jazz Christmas” – Neal Anderson Jazz Combo

Celebrate the season with the invigorating sounds of classic Christmas jazz performed by the Neal Anderson Jazz Combo. Comprised of students from the University of Michigan, this energetic group will entertain you with classic and contemporary seasonal jazz selections.

A Taste of Ireland

Experience the music of Ireland with this group of superb Irish musicians under the leadership of David Bowen, current president of the Michigan Irish Musicians Association. Returning once again to our Green Wood Chamber Series, this ensemble will put you into “Celtic Bliss” in short order!

The Bonfire Poets


Sunday, March 18 – 3:00 pm

“Ann Arbor’s Ecletic Rock Band”, The Bonfire Poets are known for their re-interpretation of familiar favorites and lesser known
gems through their intimate and upbeat performances. This talented ensemble will present repertoire embracing rock, folk and Christian styles. Always thoughtful, sometimes witty, but never vulgar, The Poets speak to audiences in a variety of settings, including coffee houses, community festivals, and church and family events. In Bonfire Poets spirit – “Let us share the muse”.

Akropolis Reed Quintet


Sunday, April 15 – 3:00 pm

Winners of both the 2011 Plowman Chamber Music Competition and the 2011 MTNA National Chamber Music Competition, the Ann Arbor-based Akropolis Reed Quintet is “a cauldron for new music” dazzling listeners with their superb technical mastery and inventive interpretations of exciting repertoire for this musical medium. Their latest recording “Nuclear Child Games” has already achieved significant notice internationally. Come and experience the “Akropolis” musical touch”.
