 OUTREACH MINISTRIES: CROP WALK FOR HUNGER RELIEF

2011 CROP Hunger Walk - Sunday, October 2 at 2:00 pm

You can join people from FUMC, friends and neighbors from all faiths and backgrounds walking to raise funds and awareness to help end hunger. Of the funds raised, 25% will support the hunger  relief and prevention efforts of 13 local agencies/groups and the remainder will support worldwide hunger relief through Church World Service. One of the local groups receiving support is FUMC's own L.O.V.E. they Neighbor program, see list below for all the agencies supported.

The walk begins and ends at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 S. 4th Ave. in Ann Arbor (MAP). You can walk a 1 or 5 mile route. Everyone can participate - walkers and supporters are needed! On walk day check-in/registration begins at 1:00 pm and the walk begins at 2:00 pm.

The Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice in Ann Arbor organizes the annual Washtenaw/Ann Arbor CROP Hunger Walk and you can follow this link to learn more about the walk at ICPJ's CROP Walk webpage, there is a nice video on this page featuring our local CROP Walk.

Funds from the 2011 walk will support the hunger relief efforts of the following local agencies: Aid in Milan, Avalon Housing, Catholic Social Services, Community Action Network, Growing Hope, Hope Clinic, Interfaith Hospitality Network, L.O.V.E. thy Neighbor, Muslim Social Services, Packard Health, Peace Neighborhood Center, SOS Community Crisis Center, and St. Andrew's Breakfast Program. Non-perishable food donations brought to the walk will go to Emmanuel House and Northfield Human Services.


Annual Crop Walk for Hunger Relief - General Information

CROP Hunger Walks are ecumenical, interfaith community events. CROP stands for “Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty.” Walkers and supporters raise funds to help those who are hungry in our community and around the world. Walkers of all ages are welcome and may choose from a 1 mile or 5 mile route. This is a great intergenerational activity with results that really make a difference! The Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice in Ann Arbor organizes the annual Washtenaw/Ann Arbor CROP Hunger Walk during a Sunday afternoon, usually early in October. Various community organizations rotate hosting the walk.

FUMC's participation the past two years:
2010 - 42 walkers, these walkers and their supporters raised $4,648 of the walk's total of $58,540
2009 - 55 walkers, these walkers and their supporters raised $4,873 of the walk's total of $55,819
