Iran and a Century of Fight for Freedom

August 28, 2022 @ 11:15 am - 12:30 pm

Sponsored by Global Issues

Everyone is invited to join this discussion about Iran led by Mitra Aliabouzar, PhD, U-M Research Assist. Professor of Radiology and Kourosh Kalayeh, PhD, U-M postdoctoral research fellow in the Dept of Urology; both were undergraduates in Iran. The dream of democracy in Iran began with the constitutional movement (1905-1907) and continues today with frequent, massive uprisings and anti-government protests. Why did the dream fail to take place? What are the political, sociological and religious obstacles to democracy in Iran? How did Iran become the heart of concerns in the Middle East and worldwide; and where is Iran heading? Join us in-person in the Chapel or on Zoom.
