Our downtown church building was dedicated on October 6, 1940. It replaced a structure that had been standing on this piece of property since 1866. The education wing, alongside Washington Street, was added and dedicated on October 12, 1955.
The main offices at First United Methodist Church are located on the first floor, one flight up from the west entry off our parking lot. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Our parking lot at the back of the church holds just 40 cars. Several spaces are reserved 24/7 for clergy and staff. We have four spaces designated for those with handicap permits. Access aisles and curb cuts allow easy access to the sidewalk and entrance. The doors into the building from the parking lot have an automatic switch for easy opening. An elevator just inside the west entry provides access to all floors. Our Sanctuary is one level up, on the first floor. We have two wheelchairs and a walker for use by our congregation.
On Sundays during worship the west entrance parking lot is reserved specifically for first-time visitors, and for those with mobility issues, which includes young families who have to struggle with strollers. Additional handicap designated spaces are available. You are welcome to pull through to drop people off and then continue to find parking elsewhere. Thank you for your courtesy to make the parking lot available on Sunday mornings to those who really need it.
Ann Arbor street metered parking is enforced from 8:00am until 6:00pm, Monday-Saturday. Street parking is free on Sundays.
The Liberty Square Parking garage, just across Washington Street from our building, has a limited number of available parking spots Monday-Saturday until 3:00pm, at $1.20 per hour. After 3pm, all available spots are open to the public – they charge a flat rate of $3 after 3:00pm.
We have a pdf file of the floorplan for our downtown location available.
