This summer our series “Callings: Ordinary People Serving an Extraordinary God” delves into stories of people with good excuses not to do what God called them to. The Bible is full of stories of people who heard God’s call...and wished they hadn’t. As we think through the inconvenient, uncomfortable, or seemingly foolish places God might be calling us, this series will offer the comfort that we’re not the first to say no thanks though.

The story of Paul’s calling is one that many have heard over and over, but part of his story is also the call of Ananias — a person to whom Paul was a clear danger, a person who often gets left out of the story. As we look at the stories of both men, how do we see ourselves in the narrative? When do we take up all the space with our own stories? When do we feel like we haven’t been included in God’s story?
