In our first fall worship series, “The Vows We Take”, we’re looking at our baptismal/membership vows — the basic instructions for how to be disciples of Christ and living like Jesus in the context of empire. We’ll explore the meaning of each vow, put it into more contemporary language, and apply it to life in our context today.

This week, we’ll kick off the series by exploring the history of these vows and then digging into the first. What does this promise, written in language that feels outdated and inaccessible, means for us today?
