Participate in FUMC’s Alternative Transport Weekend May 30/31

FUMC’s Creation Care wants to challenge you to use alternative transport to get to church the weekend of May 30/31 – Saturday afternoon to the Green Wood service and Sunday morning to the downtown service. Walk, bike or take the bus to church, and if this is not possible, carpool with someone who lives close to you. Let’s see if we can eliminate at least 20% of car traffic that weekend!

There will be signs available at church like the one below (“I biked to church today!”) we can take your photo with, at Green Wood and in Connections following Sunday’s service, to show what mode of green transportation you used.

Or, share a photo of you using alternate transportation to get to church. We would like to include photos in a “Sharing the Good News” piece. Please send photos to James Pauer or post to the FUMC Facebook page.

Creation Care Tips

If you are a meat eater, consider reducing your overall meat consumption by:

  1. Eating vegetarian meals once or twice a week.  We have discovered falafel and lentil stew as two meals that are plant based, cheap easy to make and something the entire family loves.
  2. Eating less meat when you use meat. For instance, try making spaghetti carbonara, which uses relatively little meat (although it requires eggs and cheese – not vegan). Or, try beef nachos which include half ground beef and half refried beans sauteed together. This cuts the amount of meat by 50%, which we would say makes it even more tasty!
